I was wondering why everyone's complaining about race and the right choice of an actor to play Copperfield. I have no idea how David Copperfield looked like, and I do not really care about it. Why does it matter which race the leading role has? It's just a movie. To be honest, I was not confused at all to see a British Indian actor starring him. It felt as if Copperfield has always been dark skinned. I'm convinced Dev Patel was the right choice; he's a great actor. 🙏🏼.
I hope Dev has a crush back on me. He better not think that I'm weird. I loved the book by Charles Dickens. I cannot wait to see this movie. I've been waiting what feels like ages. 🧡. Ooh Morfydd Clark plays both Clara and Dora? That's super neat! DC is a super goddamn crazy book, I'm SO glad they're leaning into the Comedy(tm) of it all. Also I can see why Iannucci immediately thought of Patel for David, like I'm not that familiar with his work but he is absolutely radiating BDE (Big David Energy) this whole video? I'm just so so stoked for this film.
Dev probably thinks that I'm a freaking weirdo. Why is he black. Just out of curiosity who is going to a theater? I normally wait for Netflix or Hulu, Prime. Definitely should have made a deal with streaming. Amongst a very strong cast, Hugh Laurie was absolutely wonderful in this! I dont know if its choice to not take on that many film roles nowadays but he struck that blend between drama and comedy hes always been so adept at from the early days perfectly.
I saw this and was really disappointed. Not with the actors/casting choices - I'm not really bothered either way about that - but with just how shoddily put together it felt. Iannucci is a talented writer, but has no directorial presence at all. It felt like watching a cheap, low budget Sunday Afternoon TV drama. Just plonk the camera down and wait for the actors to do their lines, then pick up the camera and rush over to the next set and plonk it down again. I'm not sure if Iannucci really understands the point of cinema. David Copperfield was a white man and this is race bating nonsense and will lose. Mixed reviews. Why is David Copperfield an Indian. Im sorry to see another example of affirmative action in casting. This is ridiculous. Wait wait wait, when was David Copperfield Indian.
When will I, in the U.S. be able to see this film? Had it been circulated and I somehow missed it. I would never intentionally miss a Dev Patel film. Who knows if it had been shown or not. Just got back from this - what a film, absolutely wonderful stuff. David copperfield was black. HUGH LAURIE OH YES. THIS IS NOT the movie I ordered, but I appreciate the refund. There's a lot of arguing on this thread about the race of David Copperfield being played by a British Indian. Whilst there were Indians, Africans and Irish living in England they were probably treated as second or third class citizens. We need to make films that reflect this reality and stop pretending that everything was like today in the Victorian era except top hats. It actually diminishes the hard fought struggles people have had to defeat racism, give women the vote and give workers the vote. So despite being on the left I detest this pinkwashing, as we can clearly see this just gives the right ammunition.
Why this is a kids film. I saw this yesterday with my family. We all loved it. So charming. More brown washing. so progressive. Can't wait for the biopic of Sundar Pichai when they race swap him with a white guy.
